Finding a song that gives a new perspective on life is always so fascinating. I always look for those types of unturned stones while populating my playlist.
However, it is so splendid when you discover two songs about the same storylines, with two very different emotional starting points that have the same beautiful ending. and it teaches different perspectives and both side of the story.
Can it be any more perf?
I am obsessed with the concept when I found some of the best connections in songs. ‘Gold rush’ and ‘Long story short’ songs from sister albums Evermore and Folklore by Taylor Swift. These songs are very distinct from each other, but still, work best together when you think about it. (Call me crazy but I love connecting dots😉.)
With these meaningful connections, these songs tend to touch deep within your soul and give you peculiar feelings while listening.
Both stories begin on the same emotional note. It is a story about a girl (person), standing on the highest cliff, about to jump into a raging sea.
‘Gold Rush’ is one of the best songs that describe how love should not be. There are lines that,
Gleaming, twinkling
Eyes like sinking ships on waters
So inviting, I almost jump in.
Gold Rush by Taylor Swift
These opening lines describe how she is so tempted to jump in the shiny water to seek a tragedy with free will ‘because of a man.’
On the other hand, Long story short.,
Pushed from the precipice
Clung to the nearest lips
Long story short, it was the wrong guy.
Long Story Short by Taylor Swift
This chorus gives me a feeling that she is pushed off a cliff into the wild sea without her will. So, she is trying to save herself by ‘clinging to a man.’ She thinks that there is no other way to save herself so she finds support from other person.
But as the ‘Long story short’ song story proceeds,
I just keep you warm
And my waves meet your shore
Ever and Evermore
Long Story Short by Taylor Swift
Here, she realizes both are bad for her in the long run. Both can not work for her. So she stops trying and saves herself. She makes it to the shore all by herself after all this turmoil. And guess who’s waiting for her there? Ever and Evermore.
